Do you recall the “Goat Scene” in the movie The Terminal?
This is the scene where there was an in-transit Russian guy who was being stopped by the customs/immigration folks in the US for being in possession of medicines which he legally-purchased in Canada, but didn’t have some extra paperwork that he needed because of his transit through the USA.
The Russian guy was depicted as being a very very very desperate person who was kicking and screaming and begging out of desperation for him to be given the chance to please bring the medicines with him so he can give them to his sick father.
When he was about to be taken away, he was acting up, being almost violent, to the point of him being restrained.
Why?
Because the medicines were his last chance at saving his father. And the US customs and immigration guys were taking away that last chance.
How else would a desperate person act? Patiently and nicely? Quietly and calmly?
Desperation causes people to act in certain ways because they have no other options!!
This is what many of the people who bash many Duterte supporters for being extremely passionate and sometimes “verbally violent” online whenever there are people who attack their presidential candidate DO NOT UNDERSTAND.
These people tend to want to make it seem as if Duterte supporters act like this because there was some kind of “directive” or “memo” from Duterte himself telling them to act the way they do online.
Now let me tell you people this: YOU GOT IT ALL FREAKIN’ WRONG!
Duterte supporters who are “verbally violent” online act that way not because of some directive from Duterte BECAUSE THERE IS NONE, but it just so happens that a huge number of the Philippines’ most “desperate thinking people” have converged to support Duterte.
I say “desperate thinking people” because these are people who use their brains and know that the Philippines is a f*cked up sh!t-hole that will just continue to get worse and worse unless someone steps in and sets up the necessary earth-shaking reforms AND sets up a much more orderly environment than the chaotic MESS that the Philippines happens to be.
Despite coming from a “middle-class” background, I am one of those “desperate” people.
I am totally and extremely sick and tired of my freakin’ Philippine Passport continuing to be a damned liability such that I need to waste a lot of time getting visas and producing so much paperwork just to get these visas for the extensive travelling I need to do for my job.
I am frustrated with all the hassles I need to go through when travelling.
And yet I have continued to hang on to it hoping that the necessary reforms will finally happen.
Obviously that idiot NOYNOY never lifted a finger to get any such reforms underway.
Other Filipinos have even more basic reasons for their frustrations.
Just being able to get a decent job is impossible for many.
Others are tired of the criminality that they have to go through everyday while living in the Philippines.
Others go through many other hassles such as being away from their loved ones because they have to live abroad because abroad is where the jobs are.
Whatever it is, EXTREMELY DESPERATE Filipinos have essentially found Duterte to be the only candidate who represents the LAST and ONLY CHANCE for the Philippines to improve itself and get itself out of its mess.
Try looking at the demographics involved. The overwhelming majority of OFW’s and “thinking poor” and “thinking middle classes” are going with Duterte. OFW’s are Filipinos who usually come from non-privileged backgrounds who have to work abroad and are s exposed to how things are much better in the countries we live in.
We see with our own eyes that it is possible to live decently, and it’s not really that hard. We see that Duterte’s platform promises to enable the Philippines to move towards that direction. This isn’t about instantaneously transforming the Philippines into a paradise.
We are mostly PRACTICAL-MINDED ENOUGH to know that this cannot happen overnight. But we do know that only his platform seeks to set up the right kind of environment that will help get the Philippines moving towards real improvement and not some FAKE media-manipulated window-dressing and mass-deception that the Noynoy Aquino Administration has been so guilty of.
But we are aware and discerning enough to look at all of the candidates and realize that among them all, only Duterte represents REAL POSITIVE CHANGE while all the rest represent more-of-the-same or a continuation of the LOUSY STATUS QUO.
The people who go with the other candidates do not feel the urgency to get the Philippines on track. These people think that the Philippines is “ok.” They even think that the Philippines is “on track.” (YEAH RIGHT!)
They are so CLUELESS in assuming that the lousy status quo is “fine.”
We who are totally aware of just how F*CKED UP THE PHILIPPINES IS right now are the ones who know that something needs to be done to FIX THE PHILIPPINES.
Duterte represents that desire to abandon the LOUSY STATUS QUO and fix the broken system. This is why those of us who are aware that the Philippines is actually f*cked up and needs fixing are GOING WITH DUTERTE.
We know that the Philippines is not ok. We know that Philippines needs fixing. And we know that of all the candidates, only Duterte pushes for the necessary remedies.
We are DESPERATE. And there are many more among the Duterte supporters who are even MORE DESPERATE.
We’re desperate because we know that 2016 is the make-or-break election year. If we get another DIMWITTED FOOL similar to Noynoy Aquino or anyone who will allow the lousy status quo to continue, then the Philippines will definitely get left behind and end up becoming the ASEAN region’s goat (worst perform) if we aren’t already that.
This DESPERATION is similar to what that Russian guy in The Terminal expressed.
Those Medicines meant for his sick father were his LAST CHANCE to keep his father alive. And those customs-and-immigration folks were taking that LAST CHANCE away from him. Did you think that he would just accept it?
No way! He was kicking and screaming and begging and resisting.
This is how many of the more desperate among the Duterte supporters feel. Duterte is THEIR LAST CHANCE to improve their lives. Duterte is the only one who represents a chance at solving the insurgency problems of the Philippines and the only one who seeks to get the rest of the country – and NOT JUST METRO MANILA – developed. He is the only one who represents the chance to drastically reduce rampant criminality and heinous crimes.
The rest do not represent such change at all.
Only Duterte does.
And that’s why Duterte ATTRACTS the DESPERATE THINKING FILIPINOS.
The starstruck ignoramuses who are Fernando Poe, Jr’s fans go with Poe-Llamanzares. The Binayarans go with Binay. The people with utang-na-loob, the oligarchs, those who are affiliated with Noynoy or the LP will go with Mar.
The only ones who know just how f*cked up the Philippines is and see Duterte as the only one who is thinking about fixing it are DESPERATE THINKING FILIPINOS. That DESPERATION they, nay, WE FEEL is why some of us may tend to go “overboard” when defending our candidate.
For me, he is the last chance.
He is the last chance for me to stay Filipino and hope to continue on using the pathetic Pinoy passport I hold which continues to act as a HASSLE to my ability to easily travel for my job.
Because frankly, if Duterte doesn’t win, I’m out. No reason to stay Pinoy if the next 6 years means just going down the path of continuing to get worse.
Watch the video and look at that Russian guy in the scene. He was desperate. The medicines were his father’s last chance and the meds were being taken away from him.
Unfair attacks on Duterte are an attempt to lessen Duterte’s chances of winning, and thus this is something that so many Desperate Filipinos who are supporting Duterte cannot accept. Try noticing what socio-economic sector the more “verbally violent” ones come from. They’re from sectors that have less options.
Now look at the Mar supporters. Rich kids. Folks from gated subdivisions. Oligarchs. People connected to LP people.
They don’t have much to lose. If Mar doesn’t win, they will still be living good and comfortable lives. That’s why many of them can still afford to be “nice guys.” (kuno)
But most of the Duterte supporters are from lower income sectors or OFW backgrounds or plain “self-made” backgrounds. Duterte is their last chance to live better lives. Take that last chance away from them and they can go berserk.
For me, I can afford to be “nice” because I am thinking of planning my just-in-case escape if my candidate doesn’t win. I’m at an age where I cannot afford to continue wasting the rest of my life having a passport that REPRESENTS A MAJOR FREAKIN’ LIABILITY.
Other Duterte supporters don’t have that option. He literally is their last hope.
So to all you rich burgis “gated village” kids out there who just DON’T GET IT and like to think that the outbursts that are common among Duterte supporters are derived from the “kind of leadership of Duterte”, THINK AGAIN.
We’re talking about EXTREMELY DESPERATE PEOPLE. These people – many of whom are poor or coming from non-rich backgrounds cannot be expected to be nice if their one and only LAST CHANCE AT A BETTER LIFE is taken away from them.
Remember the desperate Russian guy in The Terminal and contemplate on why he acted the way he did vis-a-vis those medicines.
I know I have repeated a lot of stuff here but I do this for EMPHASIS and to really make it sink in.

….so why then duterte is admitting MDS is the better president? Can he not concede to give way to MDS and just ask MDS to make him DILG secretary… he can still achieve his objective either way….solving the problem….plus having someone more knowledgeable than him in all aspects his ally. We have to remember, KILLING is not the answer….putting the law into our own hands will never justify the end…. besides, nobody wants to have violent means just to solve the problem… if there is a better and more humane way of solving the problem.

As much as possible wala namang may gustong madugong pamahalaan. Killing is not the answer yes, but what would you kapag say for example ang anak mo pinatay tapos nakakatakas lang ang pumatay – will it be alright? siguro naman hindi di ba. Now, pwede naman ikulong na lang pero kung habang hinuhuli ay nanlaban? Wala na bang karapatan din ang mga otoridad na lumaban? Yun lang naman yung sabi ni Mayor – kung manlaban habang tinutugis. Kapag sumuko and subjects himself for court hearing – walang mamamatay naman siguro.

If you are talking about extrajudicial killings then you, sir, are not only an idiot, but a literary disease that just won’t stop spreading. Asking for a more violent way of solving the problem only works in an ideal world and I don’t know what world you live in, but the Philippines is in the midst of chaos. Why don’t you try asking the Chinese that or the North Koreans and maybe they’ll spare us? I dare you. So, if you are talking trash because his process of judicial extremities concerns you, then too bad. This is life, it will be harsh, it will not take you lightly, and it is the most horrible thing you can ever experience. However, the President can impose a stronger and bolder image which empowers the weak. So, next time you talk about humane, look at history and tell me that it is humane and dandy. Read a book.

For me that’s his way of admitting “he is not god”, he can honestly say that some are way better than him and that’s a “pogi point”. I prefer Mr. Duterte over someone whose been given the chance to prove their worth but up to now theyre dellusional and thinks theyve done an exemplary job by the standards of the oligarchs in this country. Change is coming and I’m one of the desperate Filipinos who will vote for that change. PS: I agree with him MDS is better than him but she is sick. Last presidential debate she cant even come because of that so how can she serve our country?

Guys, this is enough. MDS and Digong shouldn’t be fighting over one another. The enemy is Danding Cojuangco c/o Grace Poe. And Maruhas.

Criminality is not the Philippines’ only problem. Only Duterte pushes for Federalism. And federalism will solve a lot of the country’s problems and can help distribute power equally to the different regions of the Philippines. And if your problem is death penalty, it has been proven effective in Singapore and look at their country’s progress. Philippines is sick with corruption and criminality. If you won’t commit anything against the law you won’t have to be killed, so why be afraid? And the government has proven that they can kill innocent farmers, but they are afraid to kill criminals. Which one is more humane?

I am one Filipino-American here in Ventura, California. Everyday, I keep in touch with mother country’s developments. I see now the hopelessness of the people there has shifted to a massive support for the right and fearless leaders to carry on a more prosperous progressive Philippines! We, Filipinos here are looking forward and praying for an honest and clean election on May 9, 2016! Duterte is the man to lead the country!

Maybe desperation would explain why they act that way. They believe that duterte is the last and only chance. But it doesnt prove that duterte really is the last and only chance. There may be another chance in the next elections which would not be available if duterte won in 2016.
To use an investment analogy, are times really so bad that you put all your dwindling life savings to buy shares in a once in a lifetime IPO of a company with potential high returns but with a high risk? Or would it be better to keep your money in the bank and accept 6 years of it being eaten away by inflation if it allows you to buy shares in the IPO of a better company with a better risk rewards ratio in 6 years?

The author is repetitive and to the point, my concern is the way we make it seem that he is the change when truthfully it is Filipinos who will need to change we need to stop being so segregated stop being a Batangeneo, Ilocano, Cebuano etc etc become a Filipino! Also be willing to accept that there will be criminals who wil neither answer to justice or the law they need to be purged and yes laws must exist and justice must be served but if both end up just serving the purpose of those that have the ability to ignore them and keep law abiding citizens from being safe, I say purge them if they continuously choose to put their life before innocent citizens then they have no right to continue! Black or white! Sometimes good men have to make the hardest decisions to keep others safe Duterte is that man and I have heard him say he is read y to be judged by God when it is his time but for the moment he wants his citizens to feel safe and so be it! As he said it befor ” Law abiding citizens have nothing to fear” so ask yourself are you a lawabiding citizen? Are you ready to change? Duterte for President!

I don’t want my children to have the same government for the next six years and live in the same Philippines for the rest of our lives. I am not impress of Duterte’s “barumbado” image, but I admire his sincerity. Among all candidates, except for Miriam Santiago whom I know is the best choice if only she isn’t sick, Duterte is the one who’s not into his personal gain. His concern is for the people, for the better Philippines. He is the one who presented something that is for the benefit of the Filipino people and not another status quo. He promised a safe country for my children, who wouldn’t want that? He offers change, that’s what we needed since forever, why not? He is my president, I’ll support him. And by supporting him, I’ll help him make it happen.

The socioeconomic and political troubles that pervasively continues in the Philippines began after the influential and privileged social and economic elite of Post WWII rejected the offer statehood from the United States of America. The basis of that rejection was the thought that the Philippines has no intention nor desire of being under another colonial ruler from just having coming out of more than three decades of Spanish rule. The fact of the matter is it was all smoke and mirrors and the real grand plan is actually to reinstate and engineer a social caste system, the only difference being is that the shot callers are now the locally based (natives, mestizos and remnants of Spanish families who remained in the Philippines) would be powers.
In a nutshell, the Philippines became a quasi-democratic caste system where the form of government and educational systems are based in the American system but tainted or laced with the poisons of the caste system. This in effect, makes the masses think that there is democracy, when in truth, it is a corrupt caste system in the guise of democracy.
Over time, this pretentious system continued to proliferate and engineered to almost perfection where only the privileged but immoral few continues to thrive and enjoy the comforts of life. To add insult to injury, in their quest to meet life’s basic needs, the masses play along with the malignant system. When social cancer becomes the norm or the standard of doing business, it is not a question of if but when, when the entirety of it all implodes.
Anyone who disagrees with the above need not look far to reconsider. Think about it, look at your own family and social circles and see how many have left the country in search for greener pastures in some foreign land or foreign-owned ships and freight liners? Of those that left, how many came back and said life is better in the Philippines? If you get 10%, consider yourself lucky.
The socioeconomic and political cancer in the Philippines is terminal if nothing is done now. There are simply no words do describe when the highest leaderships in the 3 main branches of government – executive, legislative and judicial, are constantly infested and plagued with the highest forms of sophisticated corruption. And where the perpetrators are eventually caught but not effectively held liable and punished with expediency. How many more ZTEs, Pork Barrels and Thief Justices does the country need before it finally says enough is enough. How many more?
Whoever will be the next president, the big question is, “Will this new president bring a 180-degree change and a direction that serve the permanent good for all Filipinos, and to finally put an end from the Philippines’ defiance of disproving that Crime Does Not Pay?”
It is said that the Sicilians created ‘Cosa Nostra’ or the ‘Mafia’, the Philippines perfected it. I long for the day the Philippines prove it otherwise.
P.S. I am an American who lived in the Philippines for 16 yrears when my mother was assigned at the United States consulate in Manila. While I adore the qualities of the average Filipino for being genuinely warm, happy, friendly and family-oriented people, I have very serious concerns about many of their elected leaders who time and time again continue to fail their own people. We have given you a system that works, that had, does and will continue to work but each and everyone of you must all contribute to make sure that it works or doom is not too far away.

You know who else are/were desperate?
The thug that was gunned down across our building yesterday who tried to stick a cop up for money to feed his kids.
My aunt who lost her property on loans incurred trying to win back the huge amount she lost at the casino.
The guy who shot himself and his boyfriend in Pampanga in the name of love.
Desperation never brought forth the best decisions. It would suck if our nation’s desperation would lead us to jump from the pan into the fire.
